The black arrow! The black arrow was one of the only british rockets to put a satelite into LEO (low earth orbit)
The black arrow was a rocket that got a artifical satelite into orbit. It was surprisingly, manufcatured by the United Kingdom.
It was not launcheed in the UK however, and was instead launched in Australia after a partnership with the Australian government.
2 out of 4 of its missions were failures. Its first mission, in 1969 had been a failure; as its thrust vectoring had failed.
In 1970, it launched successfully with no problems, however it wasn't carrying a payload.
Its third mission, once again in 1970, had been a failure, as its second stage failed to correctly pressurise.
Unfourtantely, in 1971, funding for the program was cut short, despite being incredibly cost-efficent. Despite the program being cancelled,
there was still one rocket ready to be launched, and it was authorised for launch.
It launched the Prospero satelite. It launched successfully and was an unfourtunate end for such a cheap while efficent payload rocket.
